KnowSickleCell.org is a resource hub dedicated to raising awareness about Sickle Cell Anemia and providing clear, reliable information for patients, families, and the community.
KSC was created by Tomi Ogunsina, a undergraduate biology student at the University of Calgary who wants to make learning about sickle cell easy and helpful. KSC combines community support, research, explanations of scientific articles, and guidance from professors, researchers, and doctors to provide trustworthy and easy-to-understand information.
Being a carrier of sickle cell trait (AS) myself, I realized I didn’t really understand what sickle cell actually was, or how it could affect my life or future family planning. As I looked for answers, I found that much of the information online was either too technical, outdated, or scattered across multiple sources, making it hard to get a clear picture.
I wanted to create a single place where patients, families, and the Calgarian community could access accurate, clear, and practical guidance about sickle cell, from understanding the trait to managing the condition and finding support.
Through KSC, I hope to bridge the gap between medical research, clinical advice, and everyday understanding. By combining scientific explanations, guidance from experts, and community voices, this site aims to make learning about sickle cell straightforward, inclusive, and actionable.
Together, we can make knowledge about sickle cell meaningful and accessible for everyone.
